We are pleased to announce our upcoming 13th annual graduate student conference in Patristic Studies and the History of Christianity in Late Antiquity on March 2-4, 2017. At last year’s conference 32 papers were presented by graduate students and discussed (see list of presenters). The deadline for 2017 submission of abstracts is Friday, February 3, 2017; paper submission deadline is February 24. Financial aid (40% of conference-related expenses) is available upon request to assist with the cost of student participation. The Stephen and Catherine Pappas Patristic Institute of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology is pleased to announce its 13th annual Archbishop Iakovos Graduate Student Conference in Patristic Studies on March 2-4, 2017. The purpose of the conference is to bring graduate students together from the fields of Patristic Studies, Historical Theology, and the History of Christianity in Late Antiquity in a collaborative and theological setting to hear and discuss peer research. The conference will begin on Thursday, March 2, at 5:00 p.m., and ends with dinner on Saturday, March 4.
We now call for paper proposals. We encourage all doctoral and masters students with research interests in Patristic Studies, Historical Exegesis or Theology, or the History of Christianity in Late Antiquity, to submit a paper abstract of approximately 250 words. Topics relating to eastern Christianity, including Syriac-speaking Christianity, are particularly encouraged. Each presenter will have 20 minutes to present her or his paper, followed by a respondent’s prepared comments and group discussion. Please send an abstract of your paper using the online registration form no later than Friday, February 3. The deadline for completed papers for distribution to your respondent is Friday, February 24.
Please pre-register at your earliest convenience by filling out the online registration form. The registration fee is $35, and will be collected at registration upon arrival. For more information, see the conference website.
For those who live outside the Boston area that might need financial assistance to attend the conference, we are able to provide financial aid (40% of conference-related expenses) upon request to assist with the cost of your participation. To request aid, indicate your need for aid on your registration form no later than February 3.
Conference lodging will be at the Sheraton in Needham, MA. If you will need lodging, please register no later than February 3, so that we can reserve a room for you. Let us know if you would prefer to share a room to reduce costs. The discounted conference rate per night is $115 plus taxes, or $58 plus tax per person for those who wish to share a room. Let us know if you there is someone with whom you would like to share a room.
Lastly, please make every effort to attend the entire conference, since the conference’s success lies largely in the collegial feedback and support of each paper presenter and the discussion engendered by the paper respondent.
