Epiphanius
(365-403) Even though he spent the latter part of his life in Cyprus, he maintained contact with Palestine, and was instrumental in stirring up the Origenist controversy. Among his works are the Ancoratus (a lengthy defence of the orthodoxy that was to be triumphant in 381 and ends with a lengthy creed of E’s own composition), the Panarion (list of and refutation of 80 heresies. It is the most important collection of heresiological material to survive. There are 4 “mothers” of pre-Christian heresy, 16 pre-Christian heresies, 60 Christian heresies [among them origenism and messalianism])
