Evolutionary psychology demonstrates that frustration–aggression, mimetic rivalry, and triangulation appear to be behind the social genesis of religious scapegoating, guilt and sacrifice. Therefore, this lecture attempts to go further and demonstrate how the interpersonal violence from childhood might have played a significant role in the institutionalising process of religion, and perhaps continues to do so.
